Why I Haven't Been Blogging 1: Rock The Bells Recap

Well I went to the Rock the Bells concert at DTE last weekend. I was kind of sort of dissapointed. I wasn't dissapointed in the performances, I was dissapointed in the jack move they did on the line up and the crowd. (No: Common, Alc & Ev, La Coka Nostra, Ice Cube, Cool Kids....boooooooooooo)

So me and the posse got there about 3:00. Right in time for Slum Village. We missed K'Naan and Chali Tuna...but everything is everything. So we pull up and I'm already buzzed up (Thanks to the mixology skills of DJ Krispy). I lost my buzz immediatley when I was first forced to breakdance by the "TRUTH" tour bus. *smh. Then I see a sign....

"WE APOLOGIZE FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE BUT BUSTA RHYMES WILL NOT BE PERFORMING. REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN"

Aaaah. This sign did not make the people wanna "JUMP JUMP"

Then I was acosted by someone who told me I shouldn't eat at McDonald's.

...go fuck yourself while I eat my 2 cheeseburger combo meal...

Slum Village: DOPE! Held it down. Great set. The stage was really big for T3, El and Dez, but it was still a great show. The crowd barely got into it! When Dez dropped just two BAPS from "Raise It Up" I pretty much lost my mind. Everyone around me looked at me like I had done just that.

Slaughterhouse: Joel Orteze. eh. Joe Budden. eh. Royce...He was aight. I don't really get the concept of Slaughterhouse, but they were decent. They did some hits, so I'm not hating.

TechN9ne: Okay. His fans are some loyal motherfuckers. They are some wild ones, but they hold Tech down for real! I mean one minute everyone was chillin' singing along to "Pump It Up" from Joe Budden, then the next thing you know the place was filled with red jerseys, flags, make up, matching couples. Wow! Tech has some big ass beats and he could put on a show. Once again I can't front on him. I won't buy a CD or go to a show, but I will nod my head for sure.

Reflections Eternal (aka Talib Kweli & Hi Tek): The crowd was still sparse at this point and people really weren't getting into it. They had a good 10 minute pause (no homo) at the beginning of the show, so I think that might of rubbed people the wrong way. (once again, no homo) Talib did all the hits. There were even rumors that Mos Def was there. I knew he wasn't when he did a few Blackstar joints and Mr. Def was nowhere to be found.

(ha...Busa Buss just came on my itunes. ha.)

The Roots: Never fail. I've seen them a bunch of times. They had a bad ass tuba player that was dancing and jumping around. Pretty live. "The Seed" was the highlight of thier set for me.

Big Boi: AWESOME! I stood up and sang along to every single song! It was pretty much an Outkast concert without Andre 3000. He did his thang!!! I lost my mind when the Purple Ribbon All Stars joint came on. Yesss!! (You can find me in the AAAAAAAA)

KRS-1: He taught. He did not perform. I was dissapointed. I was looking forward to a lil "Bridge Is Over"

Nas & Damien Marley: ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! NaS performed with Damien's live band and it was so sick. Damien is the best!I've never seen him live and it was awesome. When his two back up singers did Lauryn Hill's part on "If I Ruled The World" I got mad goose bumps. O and did I mention that "Hip Hop is Dead" had some mother fucking bongos???? Damien's performance of One Love was pretty much breathtaking...

And then I passed the fuck out and went to the ER.
