Woman Killed, Set On Fire Inside Bar
Manhunt Launched For Suspected Killer

RIVER ROUGE, Mich. -- An interstate manhunt for a man suspected of stabbing his girlfriend to death and then setting a bar with her body inside ablaze has been launched Tuesday morning.

Police said they believe David Metzoian killed his girlfriend Monday night and then set the bar he manages, the Jefferson Station Bar on Burke Street in River Rouge, on fire before skipping town.

Local 4 Cameras rolled as firefighters responded to the fire around 9 p.m. Monday. After the fire was put out, investigators made the gruesome discovery.

"So far we have just recovered a body in the backroom office. We are attempting to positively ID her at this time," said River Rouge Police and Fire Department Chief Robert Aiderman.

Police said they believe it was Metzoian who placed a call Monday evening to the police station and said he had just killed his girlfriend and then set a fire in the Jefferson Station Bar.

Police have not identified the woman, in her 40s, but they have said they believe the victim is Metzoian's girlfriend, who also worked at the bar.

The suspected victim's relative, Crystal Turesdell, told Local 4 her mother-in-law had been in an abusive relationship with Metzoian for two years. She said her mother-in-law called her Monday night and said she had finally decided to leave Metzoian.

"We're really worried about her because the man that did it was really abusive to her and she was trying to leave. She just called and asked if we could help her move today because he was beating her up," said Turesdell. "He was coming in and she couldn't talk no more, she had to hang up the phone."

Metzoian has a criminal history. In 1983, he was convicted of second-degree murder.

Police said he is considered armed and dangerous. Investigators said they believe Metzoian may be on his way to Tennessee.

He is driving a purple 1998 Ford minivan with license plate BJY9475.
